Game Fair at Roger's Farm

Each of the past four summers the "group" has held its own version of the "Game Fair" at Roger Wiehr's farm place. We started with three hunters/shooters trying to break a few clay pigeons and get some practice in......and this year we had about 25 people attend. We ate great food, shot some clay pigeons (elimination was the best event), shared memories and made new friends. These pictures depict the great day.

Pheasant Dreams

During the 1980's, Bob Hage and his boys enjoyed great pheasant hunting while hunting with the "group". A total of eight hunters contributed to this jackpot near Marietta,MN.

Roadside Check, oh Yeah!

What would you do if a silver 1980 Ford Fiesta pulled into a roadside check by conservation officers and police in Montevideo,Mn during the fall 1980's and,..... three fully dressed adult hunters stumbled out (in fact we had to pull Brad out of the backseat) and proceeded to pull pheasants, ducks and a Canada goose out of the hatchback area along with three pairs of waders and decoys??? The press was there to "catch" the result......and it made front page of the Montevideo press. The good news....we were all VERY legal, just a bit unconforming to a "hunting rig". We even had all of our stamps signed and licenses in good shape. It has made for quite a memory.

Tom and Bess

Forever bound as hunting partners, good friend Tom Goodwin and his springer Bess enjoyed a day afield in late 1990's. Tom is well known as one of the best biology teachers in the state, and that explains his bag limit including one example of each sex.

Hage Cousins with their Dogs

During a fall pheasant hunt near Marietta, MN, cousins Jeremy Hage, son of Randy Hage and cousin Steve Hage pose for a "family" picture while out standing in a CRP field. Few roosters were shot...but, history was photographed. Dogs from left to right, "Grizzly, Brewster, and Duke" stand ready....

HUNTING CAMP

Our group enjoyed a portable hunting camp during the 1980's ....the Wiehr family 5th wheeler. This camper provided home base during duck hunting episodes as well as our favorite retreat during pheasant hunts....again on private property near Marietta, MN. We told and retold stories (most of them true) while sitting at the campfire; we cooked duck breast and brats over a portable grill while listening to the 1987 Twins World Series, and we supported our friends during tough times while watching the evening fire before turning in for the night. This is part of our "hunting group" history.

Duke History

The Hage family and hunting dog has been the labrador retriever; both the black and yellow version. Here is Bob, Jr. hunting ducks in the late 1970's with Duke and again in 2003 hunting pheasants near Madison, MN. Can you tell who has changed most?

The Good Ol' Days of Pheasant Hunting in MN

Our pheasant hunting group often posed for pictures like these after a morning of tromping the CRP and wetlands for birds. It reminds us of great times and great friends. This picture was taken in the 1980's. Front row (L-R): Bob Hage,Jr., Roger Wiehr, Steve Hage and Steve Edgar. Back Row )L-R): Rich Hage, Derek Edgar, Bob Hage, Sr. and Brad Edgar. The pooch with all the gusto, was "spirit"; the location was the property near Marietta, MN.

Da' Pheasant Group and Cousins Randy and Jeremy in MN

The past few years our group has hunted the Marietta, MN property during MEA weekend in Minnesota....so some of us teachers can join in. Fellow teacher, Tom Goodwin has brought his pop-up camper along and allowed our group to "camp" overnite for two days of pheasant hunting......that's about as much walking as this group can do any more these days. Great "male bonding" time....dogs, shotguns, sweaty hunting clothes, balogna sandwiches and cold beer! I think that is the definition of "testosterone", right?

South Dakota Deer Group 05

This team picture represents the "harvest" after a Thanksgiving week of deer hunting in the Black Hills of SD in 05. The group members include L-R...Stev Hage, Bob Hage, Jr., Brad Edgar, Roger Wiehr, Gene, Wiehr. and rookie Lee Havemeir.

Junior scores "wall mounter"

Bob, Jr. harvested this huge buck on the north end of the property we hunted near Marietta,MN in 1988. He seldom can sit more than the first half hour of a morning, so...he was "still hunting" the same ditch his brother Rich shot his monster buck on...some 17 years later.....and almost a mile north......only Bob walked it when it was "dry".....This mount has adorned a Hage Palace .....

Rich and his Trophy Deer in 05

Brother Rich took brother Bob's hunting spot for opening morning Nov 05 near Marietta, MN.....it was so foggy I got lost getting to my spot in the dark and fog ....but, not Rich! He hunted the south end of the property across a ditch from the old cow watering hole. His shot was right on,.....but across the water filled ditch. Swim Rich swim.......and for this sized deer, it did just that. Probably the biggest buck we have taken since we started hunting the property in 1978. Way to go Rich! ......but wait, here comes brother Bob, Jr.'s biggest deer next.....
